Post 38: Speaking with TN Governor’s School’s Oboe Studio

This week Jason had the opportunity to speak with the Tennessee Governors School for the Arts oboe studio.  Ms. Laura Ann Ross, an oboe teacher at MTSU as well as at Governor’s School, invited Jason to speak with the students.  Jason and the students covered much material in the hour they had together.  Oboes have a pretty complex mechanism, so the students learned the importance of handling their oboe properly to prolong the life of corks, pads, and how to not bend keys.  Jason also instructed the students on various ways to swab their oboes.  They discussed how to determine if their struggles were coming from their oboe or their reeds.   Jason was honored to meet and talk with the students and looks forward to many more years of encouraging young oboists across the country.

If you lead a group of young oboists and would like for Jason or any of the Onks Woodwind staff to speak with them, please contact us.
